12 – 14 High Street, Medium Priority Project

This 19th century granite tenement with a lower property to the rear, which used to function as stabling for horses, is one of our final projects to start on-site. The rear stables were actually built first and are shown on maps dated to 1869, although some of the courtyard elements to the rear could be earlier and could be the remains of a courtyard house. The High Street frontages have long been commercial premises at ground floor level with residential accommodation above.

The Project

The communal repairs to these properties include roof repairs, so re-slating elements and repairing and renewing lead flashing where required. They will also carry out chimney head repairs and overhaul the rainwater goods. The masonry repairs and pointing will also take place as and when required. Some of the properties will also benefit from new timber sash and case windows and both the shopfronts at ground floor level are being replaced.
